What is a “Spirit Box” and how does it work?

Home » Blog » What is a “Spirit Box” and how does it work?

A spirit box is a device used by paranormal investigators to communicate with spirits. It works by rapidly scanning through AM and FM radio frequencies, creating white noise and broken bits of speech. The theory suggests that spirits or entities can manipulate the white noise. They might jump between radio stations to create audible messages. This often happens in response to questions asked by investigators.

How Does It Work?

The spirit box sweeps through radio frequencies at a fast rate, often skipping over multiple stations per second. Users ask questions aloud, hoping that spirits can manipulate the device to respond. The snippets of words or phrases picked up by the radio waves are believed to be the spirits’ way of communicating. When used correctly, the spirit box offers real-time interaction, which makes it popular among ghost hunters.

The concept of white noise is central to how the spirit box works. Many believe that spirits can communicate more easily through this noise. They think it provides a kind of energy or frequency that spirits can manipulate. Skeptics argue that the sounds are coincidental or pareidolia. However, some paranormal investigators claim they have had real experiences. They insist these experiences are undeniable when using spirit boxes.

Spirit boxes are often used with other paranormal tools, such as EMF detectors, to increase the chances of contact. They are used in haunted locations or areas with reported paranormal activity, with users carefully documenting any responses they receive.
